Pacifica vs freight visibility platforms
A container's position is one fact about an order. Pacifica tracks the order.
What visibility platforms do
Platforms built for logistics teams aggregate carrier, port and telematics data to show where every container is and predict its arrival. For a shipper moving thousands of boxes a month that is valuable and hard to build.
What they don't do
They start when a booking exists and stop when the box is delivered. They don't know which PO the box carries, whether the supplier sent the certificate of origin, whether the invoice is blocked or what the buyer's customer was promised. A procurement team using one still runs the order in email.
At a glance
| Freight visibility platform | Pacifica | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit of work | Container / shipment | Order, from sample to feedback, with its shipments |
| Data sources | Carriers, ports, telematics | Emails, ERP, carrier tracking, documents |
| Suppliers and brokers | Not users | Reply to email; their messages filed under the order |
| Documents, certificates | No | Yes |
| Invoices and payments | No | Yes |
| Customers | Sometimes a tracking page | Magic link to the whole order |
| Best for | Logistics teams with high container volumes | Procurement, planning, suppliers and their customers |
Do you need both?
Large shippers often do. Pacifica fetches carrier tracking when a container or B/L number exists, which is enough for most importers; a visibility platform adds predictive ETAs and exception management at scale. Either way, the order — and the emails about it — needs a home.
